World Teachers' Day, celebrated annually on October 5th, is a moment to honor and recognize the vital role educators play in shaping individuals and societies. Established by UNESCO in 1994, this day commemorates the adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which outlines the rights and responsibilities of teachers worldwide. It serves as a reminder of the dedication, passion, and influence that teachers have in nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning.

This year's theme emphasizes the importance of supporting teachers in their professional development and ensuring they have the resources necessary to thrive in their roles. As the world faces rapid changes, including advancements in technology and shifts in educational needs, it’s crucial to invest in teacher training and support systems. By doing so, we not only enhance the quality of education but also empower teachers to inspire and motivate their students effectively.

On World Teachers' Day, communities come together to celebrate educators through various activities, including workshops, awards, and public acknowledgments. This day is not just about recognizing teachers’ contributions but also advocating for policies that enhance their working conditions and professional growth. By valuing and supporting our teachers, we pave the way for a brighter future, ensuring that every child has access to quality education and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

In 2020, the World Teachers' Day Incentive Benefit was introduced, offering a gift of cash of ₱1,000. This reward is given out each year on October 5 as part of the national teacher appreciation day. The government recognizes teachers' important role in nurturing and educating pupils.

Public school teachers in elementary, junior high, senior high, and community learning centers nationwide are eligible for the ₱1,000 incentive. Teachers must be actively engaged on or before October 5th to qualify. Employees who are on unauthorized leave (AWOL) or have resigned before this date are not eligible.
