Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara on Tuesday assured the public that no “inappropriate concepts” related to the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) program will be implemented in public schools.
Angara issued the statement after a viral video posted by the Project Dalisay Facebook page under the National Coalition for the Family and the Constitution (NCFC) shared the dismay of various sectors on the legislative push for the CSE program.
“Getting a lot of messages about CSE/comp. Sexuality education-relating to a video going viral now. Rest assured we will not accept inappropriate concepts being taught in our schools,” Angara said in an X post.
Angara said concerns about the proposed legislation must be raised before lawmakers.
“Misgivings about any bills are best shared with our legislators,” he said.
In particular, the video called out some provisions on Senate Bill No. 1979, or the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Act of 2023.
“It’s an international program being promoted primarily by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), and the UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) that will hypersexualize children at a very early age,” Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches Legal Advisory and Public Policy Review Commission chairperson and former chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said in the said video.
“Sisirain iyong pagka-inosente nila. Maraming gigisingin na mga bagay na hindi pa dapat ginigising (it will destroy their innocence. It will awaken so many aspects which ought not to be awakened),” NCFC national director Caloy Diño said.
Provisions and features they deemed inappropriate include the mandatory nature of the bill for all public and private schools, discussions of early childhood masturbation in ages 0 to 4, anal and oral sex for ages 16 to 18, and negotiating sexual encounters, among others.
“Hindi pa nga marunong tumawad sa palengke iyong mga anak natin pero ang ituturo natin is (Our children do not even know how to negotiate in markets, but we will teach them) how to negotiate sex,” Sereno added.
As of the writing, the said video has gained over 68,000 views and 1,500 shares on Facebook.
